The Art of Recovery

I'm Michele Olem

For twenty years, I have been dedicated to helping clients recover from addiction and trauma by exploring what recovery means to them as they work toward a goal of wellness.

As a counselor at Mount Auburn Hospital’s Prevention and Recovery Outpatient Program in Cambridge, I had the privilege of working with outstanding colleagues who shared my passion for offering state-of-the-art addiction programs.

After settling down on Cape Cod as a full time resident, I spent three years working at Project WAVE – helping  women who have experienced trauma, domestic violence, and addiction build safe, healthy lives.

In 2008, I opened my own practice here on the Cape.  Having had the benefit of working in a successful clinical setting in an urban environment – as well as the experience of  living and working here year-round – I am able to offer  clients a broad perspective of addiction while appreciating the unique influences the Cape Cod community can have on those seeking recovery.

What’s most important about my background is that I have worked with people who have varying and multiple challenges.  With each, I offered strategies based on where they were, in their lives, at the time we met.

I have come to understand that what really matters . . . is your own path.  Today, I specialize in personal recovery plans.

I hold the following degrees, certifications and licenses:

  • Certificate of Substance Abuse Counseling, University of Massachusetts
  • Masters in Education, Wheelock College
  • Masters in Business Administration, Simmons College
  • Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Boston University
  • Licensed Drug and Alcohol Counselor l
  • Problem Gambling Specialist
